St. Bonifacius, Minn. – Crown's women's soccer team opened conference play with a 0-4 home loss to Martin Luther.
Martin Luther took the lead early on two first half scores by senior
Jenna Maurer (Bellingham, Mass./Luther Prep). She now has an impressive 42 goals in her Martin Luther soccer career.
After the half Crown struggled, allowing two goals. The first was by Martin Luther's freshman
Morgan Hill (Spring, Texas/Luther Prep) and a final goal by junior
Hailey Johnson (Greenleaf, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran). Johnson also had an assist in the game.
Crown had strong performances by senior
Emily Kirby (Andover, Minn./Legacy Christian), who had the team's only two shots on goal, and by sophomore goalkeeper
Marissa Becerra (Rosenberg, Texas/Lamar Consolidated), who added 16 saves to her impressive start of the season.
Women's soccer will continue to look for their first win on Wednesday at home, 2 pm, against North Central.
