St. Bonifacius, Minn. – The Crown men's soccer teams played a pair of games over the weekend, losing 2-0 at Bethel and suffering a 6-1 defeat in their home opener against Central College.
Crown had chances to take the lead early against the Royals, settling for a 0-0 halftime score. The Royals took the lead early in the second half on a corner kick and Crown pushed for an equalizer unsuccessfully. The hosts scored a late second as Crown pushed men forward to make the final 2-0.
After falling behind 1-0 early against the Dutch of Central College, Crown thought they had an equalizer when
Dante Irizarry tapped in a rebound at the far post after a fantastic free kick by
Ger Jones forced the Central keeper into a diving save. The joy was short-lived however as the offside flag went up ruling the goal out.
The Dutch jumped out to 3-0 before
Sam Eckman converted a penalty kick to pull one back for the Storm.
That was as close as they would get, however, as the Dutch added three more goals to push the final margin to 6-1.
Crown returns home on Tuesday to host Carleton College.
