Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Bigej Scores Five Points in Last 41 Seconds to Win

Hancock, Mich. — Crown's men's team got their first win of this season on the second night of a back to back beating Finlandia bouncing back from a close loss to the UMAC's Northland College the night before. Senior Garrett Bigej hit a layup with 2 seconds remaining to beat Finlandia.

Facing Northland, junior Austin VanDerHeyden led the team with a double-double, scoring 18 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Freshman Timothy Wendel led the team in points with 19, also getting 18 points from senior James Brown (who was 6-8 from beyond the arc). Sophomore Josh Volness also added 11 points in the game. Crown was spreading the ball around well, with five different players having three assists. Crown was shooting well from beyond the arc going 15/32, an impressive 47%. However, Crown couldn't find a way to win, falling to Northland College 81-86.

Crown's men were in a similar situation the next night, down by three with less than a minute to play. However, this time they were able to find a win against Finlandia behind the clutch performance of Garrett Bigej, who had 14 points, five of which came in the last 45 seconds. Bigej first hit a three with 41 seconds left to tie the game, and then made a layup with only two seconds remaining on the clock.

The game featured another strong performance by VanDerHeyden, who had 14 points, four rebounds, and five assists. Volness added 13 points in the game.

Crown next plays on Monday away at Carleton, 7 pm.
