Football Season Ends in Late Defeat to Iowa Wesleyan

St. Bonifacius, Minn. – In an incredibly even matchup to end the season, Iowa Wesleyan beat the Crown football team 19-13 with a late touchdown to spoil senior day. It was a game of differing styles, as Crown had 212 rushing yards and Iowa Wesleyan had 320 passing yards.

The game's scoring started in the second quarter after junior quarterback Ryan Synoground (Austin, Minn./Austin) found senior wide receiver Trey Peace (Raleigh, N.C./Broughton) for the nine-yard touchdown. Peace is the all-time leader in receptions for Crown as of last week's game and he continued to build his lead with five receptions today. Unfortunately, Peace was ejected for targeting early in the third quarter.

However, Iowa Wesleyan came back with two touchdowns in the 2nd quarter, senior quarterback Raul Alvarez scoring on his feet and through the air on a 15-yard pass to Jeremy Gomez.

In the second half, Crown matched their score in the third quarter with a 23-yard strike from Synoground to junior Nick McCormick (Edwards, Ill./Elmwood). The game stayed tied at 13 until there was 3:26 left in the fourth quarter, where Iowa Wesleyan scored on a ten-yard Alvarez pass to Rodolfo Amezcua.

Senior wide receiver Terrell Thomas (Charleston, S.C./James Island Christian) had three receptions, becoming second on the Crown all-time leading receptions list. Senior Matt Michaud (Woodbury, Minn./New Life Academy) had an impressive game with 150 yards on 32 touches.

On the defensive side of the ball, freshman Hunter Orozco (San Antonio, Texas/Harlandale) had an interception he returned for 34 yards and senior Jalen Phoenix (Cincinnati, Ohio/Legacy Christian) had 1.5 tackles for loss amounting in 17 yards lost on the day. Senior Joel Silva (San Antonio, Texas/Brennan) led the team with 10 tackles, and freshman Joe Duffy (Mound, Minn./Mound Westonka) had 2.5 tackles for loss.
