Minneapolis, Minn. – Crown's men's soccer team got a big win 2-0 against UMAC opponent North Central on Tuesday.
The men's team started out quick with a goal in the eighth minute on a junior
Storm Heyer (Zimmerman, Minn./Zimmerman) assist to fellow junior
Ger Jones (Bethel, Wales/Brynrefail School) for the score. Heyer and Jones have been a dynamic duo all season, with this being the fifth goal where they both received points.
Jones credited the win to a team effort, saying "All the way from the keeper to the forwards we battled and defended as a unit, I'm proud of the win and [it's] always nice to be on the scoresheet in preparation for Morris on Saturday."
The goal scoring halted from there up until the 60th minute where senior
Reagan Mahoney (Penang, Malaysia/Dalat International) was able to get a second Crown score, putting them up 2-0.
Both goals were scored on reigning UMAC defensive player of the week Gabe Hartwig, who hadn't allowed a goal since September 24th, Crown ending his stellar run of shutouts.
Junior
Eli Etzel (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo), with help from the Storm defense, was able to pick up the win and the shutout not allowing a goal in all 90 minutes.
"It was a great team win over a quality opponent where everyone did their job," Etzel said of the team's performance, "the win gave us some momentum heading into a must-win game this Saturday."
The Storm next play on homecoming Saturday, against the University of Minnesota-Morris at noon!
