Greenville, Ill. – An amazing game where Crown fought back in the fourth quarter scoring touchdowns twice in the last five minutes fails to give Crown the victory after missing the two-point conversion to take the lead with 32 seconds remaining.
The game started out trading scores between Greenville's wideout John Dudley and Crown's senior running back
Josh Edlund (Crookston/Crookston). Dudley first scored on a 25-yard reception from quarterback George Harris, and then on a 45-yard reception, with a
Josh Edlund 13-yard run in between. Edlund scored again to open the third quarter on a 2-yard run to take the lead by a point (Greenville missed an extra point attempt).
After that Greenville went on a run, scoring touchdowns twice. The first was by Corbin Quinonez on a 12-yard strike from Harris and the second Harris took in himself for a two-yard score. Crown was down 12 entering the fourth quarter.
Crown scored first in the fourth quarter on a 30-yard reception by senior fullback
Jacob Pardee (Ekalaka, Mont./Carter County) from junior quarterback
Ryan Synoground (Austin/Austin) to get Crown within five, but the first play of Greenville's possession Jonny Pruiett ran for 71 yards to put Greenville up 13 (Greenville made the 2-point conversion).
Crown then marched down the field on a ten play, 65-yard drive to score another touchdown, a catch by senior receiver
Trey Peace (Raleigh, N.C./Broughton) on a 9-yard pass from Synoground. However, they missed the extra point, which ended up being costly. After forcing a Greenville punt, they got the ball back with minimal time but scored a touchdown with 32 seconds left on a hook and ladder play; junior receiver
Nick McCormick (Edwards, Ill./Elmwood) scored on a 16-yard pass from Synoground to put them within one. Opting to go for the win instead of the tie, Crown went for two and Synoground couldn't connect to find the lead.
Crown's next game is homecoming against the University of Minnesota-Morris on Saturday at 6pm.
