Penalties and Turnovers Plague Crown on Homecoming

St. Bonifacius, Minn. – It was a disappointing homecoming for the Crown football team as they fell 45-0 to St. Scholastica.  Penalties and turnovers hurt the Storm all game long and the Saints played nearly mistake free football to spoil Crown's festivities.

It's hard to win games when you lose the turnover battle and work against yourself with penalties, and both were an issue for Crown on Saturday.  The Storm were intercepted three times and lost a fumble, and committed 15 penalties for 137 yards, giving the Saints five first downs directly from penalties.

The Saints jumped out 13-0 at the end of the first quarter and led 33-0 by halftime.  Preston Robinson led a potent CSS ground attack in the first half, carrying 14 times for 117 yards and a score.

St. Scholastica had both their starting quarterback, Dakota Paulson, and backup Kyle Stepka, leave due to injury, but even that didn't slow the visiting offense as four different quarterbacks saw time for the Saints, with each of the first three throwing for a score and the fourth, Earl Butler, rushing for a late TD.

Crown was led by Josh Edlund's 72 rushing yards, despite the junior having a 79 yard touchdown run called back due to a penalty.  Trey Peace had five catches for 65 yards, but that was about as much excitement as the Crown offense could muster on the day.

Chris Strange had a nice game defensively, recording a team best 10 tackles to go along with a forced fumble, fumble recovery, and pass breakup.  Tyler Byrd had two sacks and Cody Ricketts intercepted a pass late in the fourth quarter.

The Storm travel to Fulton, Missouri to battle Westminster College next Saturday.
