Minneapolis, Minn. – The Crown volleyball team spent their weekend downtown, playing three sanctioned games at North Central's tournament, coming out on top twice to improve their record to 3-3 on the year.
Crown battled Trinity Bible on Friday, then took on Providence and Emmaus on Saturday. The Storm came away with 3-1 wins against Trinity and Emmaus, with a 3-0 loss to Providence sandwiched in between their two victories.
Against Trinity, Crown was led by a monster performance from
Katie Hinkle. A middle-hitter, Hinkle recorded 10 kills with no receiving errors, hitting .500 for the match and adding a service ace and four blocks. The .500 attack percentage was good for a single game Crown
record.
Kaylea Kidder added nine kills for the Storm, while
Miranda Brueggeman and
Kirby Beers each tallied seven.
Taylor Urcuyo led the defense with 16 digs and
Brittany Gamer had 23 assists.
The Storm hit .219 as a team while holding Trinity to just a .097 percentage.
The game against Providence was a disastrous performance for the Storm, who hit -.077 for the match, totaling just 17 kills against 24 attacking errors. Providence, meanwhile, hit a solid .245 and added 11 service aces.
Crown rebounded with a 3-1 win over Emmaus in their final match of the weekend.
The Storm featured a balanced attack, with 11 different players registering a kill, led by Kidder with eight.
Gamer once again had 23 assists, while
Kelsey Roschen had a big game, leading the team with 21 digs and adding five kills with no attacking errors.
Next up for Crown will be a series of UMAC contests played in Mankato this coming weekend.
