Cologne, Minn. - The Crown College baseball team took the field on Wednesday against Martin Luther still in the hunt for a UMAC postseason appearance needing to win five of their last seven UMAC games in order to make it in. Crown was unable to garner that imperative win in game one as the UMAC Pitcher of the Week Matt Olson from Martin Luther held Crown without a hit through nine innings as Crown fell by a final score of 7-3. Crown did rally to win game two 6-5 in a seven inning nonconference matchup.
Olson brought a 19.1 inning shutout streak into the game that was broken up in the seventh inning as
Hunter Foss was hit by a pitch which brought in
Dalton Wintersole.
David Cruz broke up the no hitter in the bottom of the ninth hitting a single and Crown would tack on two more runs in the inning to provide the final score of 7-3.
Brandon Hudson struck out four in the loss.
Game two was a sloppy affair that saw 10 combined errors and 22 runners stranded on base. Crown broke open a 5-5 tie in the bottom of the sixth when
Joel Silva crossed the plate on a dropped third strike throw down to first base.
Camden Wiens and
Josh Flanders combined to pitch for the win striking out eight over seven innings.
