Ashland, Wisconsin – Coming off of a couple of tough losses to St. Scholastica, Crown College needed to get back on the winning track against Northland College who they beat earlier this year 11-10. Crown would lose the first game of the double header 11-3, but pick up an important win 8-5 in the second game to take two of three games from Northland on the year.
Crown was outhit 16-5 in this game as Northland used some superior hitting to keep the Storm at bay.
Sofia Palacios led the Storm offensively going one for two from the plate and collecting the lone RBI for the team.
Sarah Petkau pitched in the loss.
Game two was broken open in the top of the fourth inning when Crown's
Cassidy Valenzuela hit another double to bring in
Moriah Sawyer and Crown would score another three runs in the inning to go up 4-1. Crown would tack on two more in the fifth on a Palacios homerun, her fifth of the season which is tied for the conference lead. Crown would add two more runs in the top of the seventh to give themselves enough cushion for the win.
Valenzuela had a huge day from the plate going three for four from the plate and collecting two RBIs and scoring three runs herself.
Cearra Dulaney pitched in the win striking out three batters in the complete game performance.
Crown is currently sitting at fifth in the UMAC at 7-10 behind Martin Luther for the fourth spot and a post season berth. Martin Luther and Bethany Lutheran will travel to Crown on Tuesday for an important set of games for the Storm.
