Men's Soccer Continues Strong Play

Duluth, Minn. – After a 1-0 victory over Northland College, the Crown men's soccer team was searching for the weekend sweep and a victory over St. Scholastica that would make a huge statement in the UMAC.  Crown was unable to top the Saints, but gave a convincing effort and an encouraging performance against the table-topping juggernaut.

St. Scholastica nosed their way in front with a very late goal in a first half that saw the visiting Storm look every bit as dangerous as the hosts.  St. Scholastica had outscored opponents 47-3 through the first four games of the conference season.

Crown narrowly missed going in front on several occasions in the first half and were buoyed by a handful of huge saves by freshman keeper Justin Lao.

Unfortunately for Crown, the team could not capitalize and conceded three more goals In the second half to fall by a 4-0 final score.

Crown did earn a valuable three points on the weekend, however, with their shutout of Northland College.

The Crown back line of Angelo Silione, Chris Johnson, Daniel Arellano, Shay Johnson, Eric Strohbeen, and Kurt Fickle have been in fine form playing in front of Lao and fellow keeper Tanner Fisher, helping the Storm to their second shutout in as many weeks and holding St. Scholastica to their lowest tally of the UMAC season.

Truman Shetler edged closer to history, netting his eighth goal of the season and the game winner on a beautifully headed goal on a cross from Fickle.

The Storm will look to continue this run of form when they host a pair of UMAC games next weekend, including a vital showdown with Northwestern.
