Men's Soccer Sweeps Weekend, Moves to Second Place in UMAC

St. Bonifacius, Minn. – It was a record breaking night for the Storm on Saturday and a huge weekend as Crown picked up six valuable points and moved into second place in the UMAC men's soccer standings.  The Storm defeated Northwestern on Friday night in a game that featured first year head coach Alex Reyes coaching against a team he played for just four years ago.  Crown followed that up by routing North Central on Saturday night.

The Northwestern/Crown rivalry in men's soccer is growing as the two sides have combined for very physical, competitive matches over the past few years.  The first of two matchups with Eagles this season was no different as the game produced 17 fouls and four yellow cards.

After a scoreless first half, Cristian Olarte found the back of the net twice in a five minute span to stake Crown to a 2-0 lead.  Tanner Fisher was magnificent, making seven saves to record the shutout as Crown once again flexed their defensive muscle.

Saturday found the Storm struggling to break through early against a North Central team that was winless in UMAC play coming into the game.  Once the Storm broke through, however, they couldn't stop scoring.  Truman Shetler scored a single game record four goals, netting his first career hat trick and tying the school's career goals record in the process.  The senior forward added two assists for 10 points on the night.

Josiah Steinkamp and Ger Jones each added goals, and David Jensen scored his first career goal to complete the shellacking.  The Storm recorded seven assists on the night, with Sam Eckman, Brendan Carter, Derick Boese, Angelo Silione, and Reagan Mahoney each tallying helpers.

Fisher didn't have a lot of work to do, but made three saves, including a fantastic save on a breakaway, to notch his second consecutive shutout.

Fisher's third career shutout, and third of the season, tie both the single season and career marks in that category, while Shetler's 16 shots, 10 points , and four goals were each single game records.  Shetler's two assists tie the single game record and his 40th career goal tied the career mark held by Jon Schultz.

Most importantly, Crown's pair of wins put them in second place in the UMAC standings, with two huge matches against Bethany Lutheran this week.
