St. Bonifacius, Minn. - The opening game of the conference season didn't go as planned for the Crown women's soccer team. The Storm fell by a 2-0 score to the visiting Martin Luther College Knights. The Storm had plenty of the ball and created a number of dangerous situations, including 10 corner kicks, but couldn't find the back of the net.
Crown, now 2-3-1 on the season and 0-1 in UMAC play, generated 11 shots, but could only put three on frame.
Monika Russell had a good chance in the first half that was smothered from close range.
Emily Kirby had a second half chance saved and
Megan Wright couldn't put home the rebound. Other than those three opportunities, the Storm struggled to find the necessary quality in the final third to generate any goals.
Things won't get any easier tomorrow as Crown welcomes perennial contender Minnesota Morris to town. Kickoff for Saturday's match is set for 12 p.m.
