Grant DeWitt begins his third year at the helm of the Cross Country and Track & Field programs at Crown College. In his first year, the Polars set NCAA-era program records with team finishes of 4th for the men and 3rd for the women at the UMAC Cross Country Championships—both program bests. The indoor and outdoor track and field seasons also brought record team finishes, including 4th at the women’s indoor UMAC Championships, 4th at the men’s outdoor UMAC Championships, and 5th at the women’s outdoor UMAC Championships.
Year two produced some of the most historic moments in school history. In the fall of 2024, DeWitt guided the Women’s Cross Country Team to their best finish ever at the UMAC Championships, earning 2nd place with a program-record 56 points, before leading them to the first NCCAA DII Women’s Cross Country National Championship in program history. His success continued into track and field, where he led Crown to its first-ever UMAC Indoor Track & Field Team Championship—also the first women’s conference championship in the school’s history—followed by the program’s first UMAC Outdoor Track & Field Team Championship.
Coach DeWitt has coached NCCAA DII Cross Country Individual Champion Ella Dufault to back-to-back national titles in 2023 and 2024. He has also coached 1 UMAC Cross Country Individual Champion and 38 UMAC Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Individual Champions.
As an athlete, DeWitt competed in both Track & Field and Cross Country at Evangel University, serving as a team captain for three years. He played a key role in the exponential growth of the two programs, expanding from 18 to 65 student-athletes, and qualified for the NAIA Cross Country National Championships while setting multiple school records. Following his competitive career, he has coached at both the collegiate and high school levels.
Originally from Watertown, South Dakota, DeWitt enjoys wake surfing, running, pickup basketball, and collecting vinyl records. He is married to Brooke DeWitt, and the couple resides in Victoria, Minnesota.
