Nominations will be "carried over" from one nomination cycle to the next and will remain active for a five year period. Once a nomination reaches the five year period for active consideration, the nomination will be removed from the list but can be resubmitted for consideration with the addition of new information.
Recognition of Inductees
The Crown Department of Athletics will host an induction ceremony each year during Homecoming. Each inductee will be presented with a special award at the induction ceremony and will be honored as follows: perpetually in the designated "Athletics Hall of Fame" display. Should an inductee not be available to attend the scheduled induction ceremony, the candidate for induction will be held over and invited to participate in the next scheduled induction ceremony.
Jersey Retirement Process
The purpose of this policy is to establish a college standard for recognizing student-athletes for extraordinary athletic performance while enrolled at Crown College.
Any coach or hall of fame committee member can nominate a former Crown College student-athlete who meets the eligibility criteria and are worthy of the honor. Nominations must be submitted in writing and are accepted from January to March 1st. To be considered for athletic jersey retirement, the former student-athlete will be evaluated on the following criteria (1-6 are required; however in special circumstances an appeal may be filed by the nominator to be considered by the Hall of Fame Committee).
- There must be a period of five years since the student-athlete participated at Crown or is already inducted into the Hall of Fame.
- Preferably earned at least a bachelor's degree from Crown College.
- Attained first team recognition at the conference level for at least two years.
- Attained regional or national recognition for at least two years.
- Was a school record-holder or a conference/national season statistical leader during the career at Crown.
- Although athletic achievement is of primary importance, godly character and good citizenship during and after college enrollment will be taken into consideration.
Nominations may be emailed, mailed or delivered to the AD. When the nomination is received, the AD will verify that it qualifies for consideration. If the nomination is recommended to move forward, the Hall of Fame Committee will consider all of the supporting documentation and if unanimously approved, will forward to the cabinet for final certification.
A jersey retirement ceremony will be held and the jersey shall be appropriately displayed with the necessary descriptive information in the appropriate athletic venue. The jersey number, if applicable, will never be used again. For those sports who participants don't historically wear athletic jerseys (golf, cross country, etc.) the schools warm-up or competition top for the sport, along with the appropriate identification markings, will be used.88
