St. Paul, MN — Crown men's soccer picked up a huge conference win on Saturday afternoon, defeating the University of Northwestern on the road following the women's match earlier in the day.
The Polars broke through in the 36th minute when Josh Mata found the back of the net off an assist from Carlos Neto, giving Crown a 1-0 advantage before halftime. The goal provided the Polars with momentum heading into the break and set the tone for a strong road performance.
Crown added to its lead in the second half, striking again in the 69th minute on another setup from Neto. The second goal gave the Polars breathing room and helped them take control of the match down the stretch.
The Crown attack put together a productive afternoon, finishing with 13 total shots, including five on goal. The Polars generated chances throughout the match and made the most of their opportunities in key moments.
With the victory, Crown improves to 2-2-1 in UMAC play as it continues to gain ground in the conference standings. The Polars will now head west next Tuesday for a conference match up at Minnesota Morris.
