Softball Wraps up Season by Taking One of Three from Northwestern

Roseville, Minn. – The Crown softball team wrapped up their 2022 campaign with a three-game set against Northwestern on Sunday/Monday.  Crown took the middle of three games against UNW and finished their season at 8-20 overall with a 6-14 mark in UMAC play.

In game one, Crown was in danger of being run-ruled, trailing 10-1 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning.  A pair of runs in that frame kept them alive, and after a scoreless sixth, the Storm mounted a furious comeback attempt, scoring five times in the bottom half to close the gap to 10-8.  Unfortunately, the Storm weren't able to complete the comeback and fell by the two-run margin.

Kiara Hurt led the way offensively for Crown with a double, triple, three hits overall and a pair of RBIs.

Game two, played as the first game of a twin bill on Monday, saw the Storm jump out 8-0 after three innings.  UNW roared back, with six unanswered runs, but Crown shut the door and added three runs in the top of the seventh to secure the 11-6 win.

Abbey Underdahl earned the win with 4.1 innings of work and Lindsay Glover closed the door on the Eagles comeback attempt with 2.2 innings of one-run ball.

Offensively, the Storm uniquely hit eight singles with no extra-base hits, but drew four walks, had two hit batters, and stole four bases in a balanced performance.  Seven players recorded hits, with Underdahl leading the team with two singles.  Ally Adams scored three times and Maria Lilienthal had three RBI to lead Crown.

Game three of the series would be a convincing win for the host Eagles, who won 8-0 in five innings and limited Crown to just a single hit, a Lilienthal single.

Crown set 10 new records this season and doubled their conference win total from a year ago.  A full breakdown of their season will be available soon.
