ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Crown College Men's golf team displayed impressive perseverance Wednesday morning at Les Bolstad Golf Course. Off to a rocky start, the men battled back to put themselves in a great position.
Drake Dawson shot 37 and
Titus Wookey shot 39 on the back 9. Dawson got more aggressive on the back with a birdie on 11, and Wookey stayed consistent with impressive iron play.
Matt Yerke and
Lane Thomas were steady throughout, both carding an 80 on the day. Yerke also birdied holes 11 and 4, with darts onto the green. Thomas birdied the difficult par 3 17th with a 25-foot putt.
Rey Cantu dialed in a 38 on the front, contributing to the team score with an 83 overall. Cantu narrowly missed an eagle on hole 7 and hole 14, tapping in for birdie on both. A few mistakes from the team compounded with the tight confines of the course and lurking fence line. UW-Superior finished with the overall top team score on the day.
Julia Hyatt also competed well on the women's side, making great shots from the fairway and a 25 ft. putt on hole 2.
The team competes again next week on September 28 for the UNW Invite at Majestic Oaks Golf Club in Ham Lake, Minnesota.
