Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Falls to Bethel

Arden Hills, Minn. – The Crown men's soccer team traveled across town on Tuesday to take on familiar foe Bethel University. The Storm scored a late second half goal to halve what had been a 2-0 deficit, but their comeback attempt fell short as the Royals added a late goal to hold off the Storm.

The two teams went into the break deadlocked at 0-0 thanks in part to five first half saves from Foster Browning. Crown's number one impressively parried one close range shot around the post in the last two minutes of the half to keep the home team off the scoreboard.

Crown was organized defensively, but the Royals did have the lion's share of the chances in the opening 45 minutes, firing 13 shots to just one for the visitors.

That pressure would pay off early in the second half as the hosts opened the scoring less than two minutes in. The home team would add a second goal on 58 minutes as they kept the pressure on.

Crown would climb back into the game when Josh Cannon latched on to a through ball from Yanik Wehrli and fired over the Bethel keeper to bring the score to 2-1. The goal marks the second for the sophomore after he netted against Augsburg earlier this year.

As the Storm pushed for an equalizer, the Royals were able to take advantage, scoring the final goal in the game on 87 minutes.

Browning finished with double-digit saves, recording ten stops in the contest, while Tim Jaeger had Crown's other shot on goal.

The Crown men now set their sites on two vital conference home games this weekend as they host Northwestern on Friday and welcome North Central to campus on Saturday.
