RAMSEY, Minn. – Crown College Golf headed north for a Triangular match with North Central University and University of Northwestern on Thursday. A blustery day could have been a lot more challenging as thunderstorms loomed from the north and south.
The Crown men, led by
Titus Wookey, battled all day on the Scottish links style course showcasing deep heather throughout and minimal trees on the front nine. Wookey stayed consistently in the fairway, allowing him to be aggressive into greens and tie for the overall low score of the day with a 77, earning a medal. His putter was on full display, knocking home multiple putts of over 50 feet.
Drake Dawson did a fantastic job hitting fairways and greens, coming in with a personal best 79.
Matt Yerke outdrove his opponents with surreal power off the tee box, setting himself up for low range approaches with consistent 350+ yard drives and overall score of 81.
Lane Thomas rounded out the team score with an 87 as he stayed steady with the putter and made many difficult par saves.
The Storm finished with an overall team score of 324, the best overall finish for the men in 5 years, and an impressive win over UNW, their first in 5 years as well. They look to continue to improve with the UMAC Preview coming up Monday, September 6th.
