Senior Roberts Has Game Winner in Final At-Bat to Lead Storm to 11-10 Extras Win

ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. --- Crown College Softball took on the Carlton Knights Saturday in their season finale. The day featured a pair of dramatic games, with each coming down to the last inning. Both games saw the Storm jump out to early leads, followed by a quick comeback from Carlton. In game one, the Knights were able to prevail, coming out on top by a score of 6-4. However, the Storm did not let that keep them down. They fought back in game two with an impressive team outing culminating in a walk-off sacrifice fly RBI from senior Zoe Roberts, giving the Storm the 11-10 victory in the ninth inning. Fellow Senior Laryssa Vik also had an impressive finish for her collegiate career, going 4-9 on the day with a double and two RBIs while also proving to be an anchor behind the plate for the Storm defense.

The Storm jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first contest, highlighted by a 2RBI double from Sophomore Kuulei Ili. However, Carleton matched the Storm's offense scoring two in the third inning, then tying the game in the fifth. The game remained even after that until the seventh inning when Knights scored two and held on to win the game.

Ashley Earick went the distance for the Storm on the mound, striking out five and allowing only three earned runs over the seven innings of play.

Game two, while equally competitive, had a completely different feel to it. The bats for both teams came out on fire as an offensive shootout quickly ensued. After the Knights score three in the top the first, Junior Liz Kemp and Sophomore Kuulei Ili led off the bottom of the inning with back-to-back doubles in what led to a six-run offensive barrage. Going back and forth after that, the score became tied at ten in the bottom of the fourth. The pitches then showed their stuff, and no one scored the next three innings, sending the game to extras. The score remained 10-10 until the bottom of the ninth when first-years Zeta Brown and Katelyn Brown hit back-to-back singles, setting up Roberts for the walk-off as the Storm won 11-10.

The pitching for the Storm was a combined effort with Maddie Noble staring on the mound, followed by Lindsay Glover and Abbie Carroll in relief, with Savannah Ellis finishing the game and earning the win.
