Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Season Ends One Win Shy of National Tournament

Ankeny, Iowa – The Crown men's soccer team's magical run at the NCCAA regional tournament came to an end on Saturday as they fell 4-1 in the championship game.  The Storm recorded wins over Maranatha Baptist and Faith Baptist to reach the final, their third game in as many days.

On Thursday, the Storm defeated MBU 4-3 in OT thanks to a golden goal from Tim Jaeger.  Crown had four different goal scorers in the match and took an early lead through a 20th minute Yanik Wherli strike.  After the Sabercats tied things up at 1-1 Crown jumped ahead 3-1 thanks to rapid fire goals from Santiago Ciro and Payton Fisher just under eight minutes apart.

After Maranatha again tied things up the game went into sudden death overtime.  With penalty kicks on the horizon, Jaeger came to the rescue, deciding things in the 105th minute to send Crown through to the semifinals.

Host school Faith Baptist, the number one seed in the tournament, awaited on Friday and Crown got a huge performance from Eli Salisbury who netted a hat-trick in a 3-1 victory.  The first year who has played in numerous positions this year scored goals in the 56th and 77th minutes to stake Crown to a 2-0 lead.  When the Eagles got one back with just under ten minutes to play, Salisbury sealed the victory and completed his hat-trick with a goal in the 88th minute.

That win set up a Saturday final with familiar foe and fellow UMAC member North Central.  The first half was tight as a goal from Santiago Ciro tied the game at one late in the first half. The second half was a different story for Crown as North Central responded with three unanswered goals to take the match by a final of 4-1. The loss ends Crown's season after a great run at the NCCAA regionals.
