St. Bonifacius, Minn. – Crown welcomed the high scoring Bethany Lutheran Men's Soccer team to Old National Bank Stadium on Saturday evening and largely held the Vikings in check thanks to some incredible work in goal from
Foster Browning.
The Crown shot stopper recorded 12 saves, and notably saved two Viking penalty kicks to keep Crown within striking distance the entire match.
Unfortunately, Bethany controlled the possession and Crown was only able to muster two shots on the evening and eventually fell by a final score of 2-0.
Nathan Cantrell and
Josh Cannon recorded the Storm's two shots, both on target, but the headlines rightfully belonged to Browning.
The keeper had five saves through the match's first 25 minutes before the Vikings found the breakthrough. After reigning UMAC player of the year Max Busch hit the woodwork for the visitors Browning had one more save before the half to push his total to six.
Just under 10 minutes into the second half, Busch finally got himself on the scoresheet to push the score to 2-0 and BLC continued to look for more.
Just before the hour mark, the Vikings won a penalty and Busch stepped up to the spot looking to add to his conference leading 11 goals. The German went to the keepers left but Browning was up to the task, saving and watching as the rebound flew over the crossbar for a goal kick.
Just two and half minutes later, the referee once again pointed to the spot and Crown faced a second penalty. This time Gianluca Trastulli stepped up for the Vikings, but again Browning stood tall, this time saving to his right and pushing the ball around the post for a corner kick.
While the Crown defense and Browning would continue to hold the Vikings at 2-0, the Storm were not able to threaten themselves and the final scoreline would be set.
Crown will look to get back to wining ways on Tuesday as they travel to Minnesota Morris.
