MINNEAPOLIS --- Crown College Softball played their final two games of the annual Auggie Dome Tournament on Saturday and split with the host, Augsburg, in two contests. In game one, the Storm eight-run ruled the Auggies as junior Olivia Christopherson, now 2-0, pitched a shutout with ten strikeouts and only three hits allowed. Christopherson had two innings with three batters faced and three strikeouts, the first inning and the fifth.
The Storm started the scoring when senior Olivia Dols hit a double to score sophomore Telma Roesler. Next up, first-year Kaylee Wilson hit the ball in play to score Dols and first-year Kuulei Ili, and when the bases were loaded, junior Raquel Gonzalez walked in another run. An Auggie wild pitch allowed junior Laryssa Vik to score for an early 5-0 lead. The Storm next scored in the third inning when sophomore Liz Kemp doubled to score senior Samantha Collins. In the fifth inning, Kemp reached on a fielder's choice once again scoring Collins, and Ili also reached on a fielder's choice to score Roesler and end the game at 8-0.
In the second contest, the Storm struggled to produce runs despite having more hits than Augsburg, falling 5-0. The difference in the game came in runners left on base, with the Storm having 12 compared to the Auggies' 3. Senior Zoe Roberts and sophomore Liz Kemp led the team with three hits each.
Sophomore pitcher Maddie Noble started the game for the Storm and went 1.2 innings with no earned runs. First-year pitcher Ashley Earick came in relief of Noble, and pitched the remaining 5.1 innings, allowing one earned run throughout the rest of the game.
The Storm now head to Fort Meyers, Florida, for their spring break trip at the Gene Cusic Classic. Those matchups run between March 13-19, and will then head home to host the Macalester Scots on their home grass on Wednesday, March 25 (as always, weather permitting).
