Dols, Collins Provide Late Spark to Steal Last Game of Season

ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. --- Crown Softball ended their season on Thursday, splitting a doubleheader with the Augsburg Auggies on their home field. In game one, the Storm struggled as Crown only scored on a Lottie Ellis 3-RBI triple and fell to the Auggies 11-3 in six innings. However, in game two the Storm thwarted Augsburg in an eight-inning contest, 4-3. With it being the last game of the year, it was senior night for both outfielder Demi Brezina and catcher Danielle Alvarado

In the second game, Augsburg took a 2-0 lead early, but the Storm countered with a run of their own in the third inning as first-year outfielder Ally Adams scored on an Olivia Dols groundout. Crown tied the game in the sixth inning when Zoe Roberts scored as Samantha Collins reached on an error. However, Augsburg scored a run in the top of the seventh to take a late lead.

With two outs and no one on in the bottom of the seventh, Lottie Ellis reached on an error and stole second. Then Olivia Dols played hero with an RBI single that scored Ellis to tie the game and force extra innings. After a clean top of the eighth inning, the Storm found a way to win the game as Laryssa Vik walked, Zoe Roberts sacrificed Vik to third, and Samantha Collins hit a game-winning single to right field to take the last Crown Softball contest of the 2019 season.

It was Olivia Christopherson who pitched the second game, going 7.2 innings with nine strikeouts, and recording only one earned run in an impressive finale to the sophomore's season.

The Storm end their season with twelve wins and look towards next season as they return several starters and impact players.
