St. Bonifacius, Minn. — Crown faced Augsburg University Tuesday afternoon as they had a final tune-up before their first UMAC Playoff games on Thursday. Crown competed with the Auggies throughout and had a tie game entering the seventh inning, but eventually fell 7-8.
Crown faced an early Auggie 3-0 lead but came back after
Lis King's sacrifice fly scored
Olivia Christopherson and advanced
Cassidy Valenzuela to third (who then scored on a wild pitch).
Kailee Leathers then reached on an error scoring
Lottie Ellis and
Laryssa Vik. Up 4-3, Crown allowed four fourth-inning runs to Augsburg, who took a 7-3 lead. However, a
Lis King double scored Valenzuela and King was pinch-ran for by senior Monika Russell, playing in her first game as a member of the softball team. She was able to find home plate for her first collegiate run after
Kailee Leathers singled to right field.
Olivia Dols hit a foul sacrifice fly that scored
Amanda Morrison to tie up the game at seven in the sixth inning. However, a late scoring run by the Auggies stole the game away from the Storm.
Crown ends the regular season 17-18 and begins the UMAC Playoffs on Thursday. The Storm play Bethany Lutheran in a rematch of Monday's games at 10 am, and then play St. Scholastica if they win at 2 pm or the loser of the Northwestern/UW-Superior game at 4 pm if they lose to the Vikings.
