Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Has Third Straight Shutout

MANKATO, Minn. --- Crown Men's Soccer was in Mankato chasing a berth in the UMAC Playoffs on Wednesday evening at Bethany Lutheran. While the game remained scoreless through the first half, a penalty kick by senior Ger Jones put the Storm in the lead. In less than two minutes from that make, sophomore Igor Shevchenko found the back of the net to give Crown's lead a cushion.

On Shevchenko's goal, there were assists on the play from both senior Storm Heyer and junior Mason Shrewsbury. While the Vikings led the Storm 20 shots to 11, Crown led Bethany with seven shots on goal compared to five. Senior Eli Etzel recorded his third straight shutout, with five saves in the game as the Crown defense gave him an easy day of work. There were a lot of cards in the game, with Bethany Lutheran receiving six yellow cards and Crown only receiving one, on Harvey Holcombe

After beginning the day tied in the standings with the Vikings, Crown passed Bethany Lutheran in the UMAC standings. This match was Crown's third straight UMAC shutout. The Storm now occupies the fourth spot in the UMAC Playoffs, and Crown is only a single point behind the College of St. Scholastica, who they play on Saturday.
