Duluth, Minn. — Crown lost to Northwestern in a heartbreaker 1-2 with both of Northwestern's runs coming in the seventh inning.
Lis King pitched the final game of her stellar season, and easily pitched through the Northwestern lineup, only allowing four hits and two walks in seven innings with a single earned run. Her ERA ends at 2.87 and leads the UMAC in innings pitched. The game was a pitching duel with Crown's go-ahead run coming in the fifth inning when
Cortney Gunderson hit a single after
Kaitlin Ruiter hit a triple. Unfortunately, that was Crown's only run as Northwestern stole the game in the top of the seventh inning.
Crown had beaten Northwestern in their first game of the tournament 7-0 and beat Northwestern in both regular season matchups.
Crown's 2017 softball season ends as the highest regular season ranking (second) of any Crown head-to-head sport and third place in the UMAC Conference Tournament.
