St. Bonifacius, Minn. — Crown's softball team improved to 4-0 in conference play on Wednesday, beating rival Northwestern twice, 6-0 and 10-5.
Pitcher
Lis King was a one-woman wrecking crew in game one, allowing only four hits, no runs, and no walks as she cruised to win against the Eagles. She also went 2/4 in the match with a run.
Outfielder
Cassidy Valenzuela scored half of the runs with one swing of the bat, with a triple that scored two and scored herself on a throwing error as the Eagles attempted to stop her from reaching third. First baseman
Moriah Sawyer also had a great game, with a two-RBI single in the sixth.
In game two, King was on the mound again, and despite letting up four runs early (going down 4-0), she was able to keep her composure and pitch well through the rest of the game, getting her second complete game win of the day.
Sawyer continued to hit well, with an three RBIs on two singles. Designated player
Kate McLaughlin improved her batting average, going three of four in the game.
Crown scored six runs in the bottom of the second to retake the lead. including a King RBI double to put them into the lead. Shortstop
Marissa Becerra had the only other extra-base hit for Crown in the contest.
Crown next plays on Friday, a doubleheader at home against NDSCS.
