New Ulm, Minn. — Crown men's soccer team was in New Ulm this afternoon taking on the Martin Luther Knights. The Knights scored two first-half goals, including a buzzer beater with two seconds before the half ended. Crown was able to score in the seventieth minute when first-year
Igor Shevchenko scored his first goal of his collegiate career on a pass from
Austin Higginbotham. However, Crown couldn't pair the rookie's goal with another, falling to Martin Luther 1-2.
Leading the offensive charge for the Storm,
Mason Shrewsbury had three shots;
Derick Boese,
Cristian Olarte, and
Josh Samsa all had two. Shevchenko's goal was his first on his fourth shot attempt of his Storm career. Defensively, senior
Eli Etzel was in goal and compiled five saves out of seven shots on goal.
Next up for the Storm is UMAC-rival North Central, which they tied earlier this year. The matchup will be on Saturday in St. Bonifacius at KleinBank Stadium.
