Knights Take Two from Storm Softball

St. Bonifacius, Minn. - Crown welcomed the Carleton College Knights to St. Bonifacius on Wednesday for a pair of non conference games.  The teams previously met on March 21st down in Tuscon, Arizona where Carleton won by a score of 4-0.  Crown would get the bats going better than their previous matchup, but was unable to change the result losing both games by four runs 9-5 and 8-4.

Game 1

After Carleton grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, Crown answered with two, two run homers courtesy of Cassidy Valenzuela to dead center and Sofia Palacios to right center to take a 4-1 lead.  Unfortunately, Crown would allow the Knights three unearned runs off of errors in the top of the third as the score evened 4-4.  The Knights would then wake up the bats to build a 9-4 lead over the next four innings.  Crown had a short rally in the bottom of the seventh as Cearra Dulaney had an RBI single, but she was thrown out attempting to advance to second ending the inning.  Dulaney pitched in the loss as Valenzuela, Marissa Becerra, and Palacios all led offensively with two hits a piece.

Game 2

Game two was similar for the Storm as they were hurt by errors and unearned runs.  Carleton took a 2-0 lead before Crown answered in the bottom of the third.  Palacios grounded out to first bringing in Valenzuela and Hillary Brodsema singled down the right field line brining in Liz King to tie the game 2-2.  The Knights tacked on six more runs over the next four innings as the Crown bats went silent.  Crown once again threatened a rally in the bottom of seven scoring two runs to narrow the lead to 8-4 but could not get any closer.  King pitched in the loss and also led offensively with a two for four outing at the plate.
