St. Bonifacius, Minn. – The Crown men's soccer team won a thrilling physical 3-1 game against Bethany Lutheran on Wednesday evening. After falling behind 0-1 in the first half, three second half goals propelled Crown to a conference victory, their second of the season.
In the first half, freshman
Jonathan Sehloff (Mankato, Minnesota Valley Lutheran) passed to fellow freshman
Samuel Duran (Marshall/Marshall) for a Bethany Lutheran goal in the 21st minute, the lone score of the half by either team.
In the second half, Crown's offense began to have more opportunities, with a game-tying goal in 55th minute by junior
Ger Jones (Bethel, Wales/Brynrefail School), assisted by fellow junior
Storm Heyer (Zimmerman/Zimmerman). Ten minutes later, in the 65th minute, Jones returned the favor by assisting Heyer to take the lead. Less than two minutes later, senior
Sam Eckman (Edinboro, Penn./Dalat School) showed a wonderful sense of control to out-maneuver Bethany Lutheran's keeper putting Crown up 3-1, which would be the final score.
After attempting only five shots in the first half, Crown shot 12 times in the second half resulting in all three goals. The defense stepped up as well in the second half, allowing only four shots, with none of them on goal.
Crown's UMAC season continues away against St. Scholastica on Saturday at 1 pm.
