Victory! Crown Women Capture First Win in Shutout

Minneapolis, Minn. – Crown's women's soccer team got their coveted first win of the season on Tuesday, shutting out North Central 1-0.

The game was fairly even, and despite not scoring on several opportunities, the Storm took advantage in the 54th minute on a score by freshman Anna Kragt (Milaca, Minn./Black Forest Academy.)

Senior Emily Kirby (Andover, Minn./Legacy Christian), who has seen time all over the field due to injuries throughout the team, was able to get the shutout, with 14 saves and no goals allowed, increasing her save percentage to .846 on the season.

"I'm proud of my defense for earning their first shutout," Kirby said, "I've had to transition a lot this year, literally having to play every position. My defense showed true grit and worked so that my job in goal was easy. "

The players have worked tough throughout the season, despite not being able to capture the elusive first win before Tuesday, their work ethic has not suffered.

"I'm super proud of the team on yesterday's win, we've been working really hard in practice and it's finally beginning to pay off," said sophomore Katelyn Carter (Mesa, Ariz./Mountain View), who had three shots in the game, "we will continue to work hard and hopefully be able to bring home some more wins."

Kirby reiterated this sentiment, "Our team has worked tirelessly throughout the season in order to improve every day. Tuesday was evidence of our hard work."

Crown's women's team next plays at home on homecoming Saturday at 2:15 against the University of Minnesota-Morris.
