Mankato, Minn. – The Crown women's team played a conference game against Martin Luther and met Bethany Lutheran in a non-conference battle over this past weekend. Crown regained some of the offensive form they had to open the season, but it wasn't enough to claim a victory in either game.
The Knights used consistent pressure to build a 4-0 lead on Friday, slowed only by a
Rochelle Perzel goal in the 81
st minute. Crown looked dangerous, however, countering with some possession and offensive pressure of their own, an encouraging development after a recent offensive dry spell.
Saturday brought a trip to Bethany Lutheran, where the Storm continued the positive run of form.
The Vikings struck first, getting two goals to start the first half before
Emily Kirby got her breakthrough, pulling a goal back just before halftime.
The Vikings would score first in the second period, but with just over 10 minutes remaining Kirby scored a second, once again pulling Crown within one.
Unfortunately, Crown couldn't find another goal, falling by a final of 3-2.
The brace for Kirby were the first goals of her career, and well deserved. With Crown netting three times on the weekend, hopes are high for games this coming week against North Central and Northland.
