St. Bonifacius, Minn. – The Crown men's soccer team paid tribute to lone senior
David Jensen at halftime of their final game of the 2015 season, and the midfielder had a big part to play in the second half as Crown grabbed an equalizer to earn a 1-1 draw with playoff bound Minnesota Morris.
After allowing an early goal to the Cougars, Crown recovered nicely, limiting the chances of a Morris team that finished third in the UMAC this season.
Halftime saw the Storm down 1-0, but focused on honoring their departing teammate who had four career goals and four assists entering the game.
The second half was much of the same, with Crown looking most dangerous from set pieces, particularly the excellent service provided by freshman
Bradley Ray. It was on one such opportunity in the second half that
Josiah Steinkamp drew a foul in the box and the referee didn't hesitate in awarding the penalty.
Normal penalty kick taker
Ger Jones grabbed up the ball and presented it to Jensen, who after a bit of conversation agreed to take the opportunity. The senior delivered a picture perfect penalty, sending the keeper the wrong way with a cool stutter and calmly rolling the ball over the line.
The two teams would continue to battle, and keeper
Justin Lao played his part, making a brilliant save in the second overtime to preserve the 1-1 score line and earn Crown a positive result on the last day of the 2015 season.
