Softball Perfect on Saturday

St. Bonifacius, Minn. - The Crown College Softball team came into this weekend needing to win three of their last four UMAC games in order to secure a spot in the UMAC playoffs.  Crown was trailing Martin Luther by a game, but made up some important ground as they won both games on Saturday against the Knights, putting themselves in the fourth spot with two games left on Tuesday.

Game one found the Storm down 2-0 before they woke up the bats.  Alisha Promis opened up the inning with a single and would find her way home as Sofia Palacios made good contact and reached on an error by the short stop.  Marissa Becerra would continue the scoring with a sacrifice fly, bringing in Kate McLaughlin.  Janelle Williams capped off the scoring for the inning with a nice single to center field bringing in two more runs to go up 4-2.

Crown would get a cushion on their lead from the big bat of Palacios who would hit her sixth homerun of the season bringing in McLaughlin for a 6-2 lead.  The Knights would threaten with two runs in the top of the seventh, but Crown was able to close them out.  Cearra Dulaney pitched in the win.

Crown once again found themselves down in the top of the third in game two 6-0 as the Knights struck first.  Crown answered in the bottom of the third with two runs as Promis and Cassidy Valenzuela both knocked in runs.  The Knights tacked on one more in the top of the fourth to go up 7-2.  Crown exploded in the bottom of the fourth inning for five runs collecting two doubles.  Moriah Sawyer knocked in the winning run in the bottom of the fifth with her third hit of the day bringing in Marissa Becerra.  Dulaney once again picked up the win.

Crown moves into fourth place in the UMAC with a 9-10 record with a slight lead over Martin Luther who owns an 8-11 record in conference.  Crown will play Martin Luther and Bethany Lutheran on Tuesday.
