New Ulm, Minn. – Crown's championship dreams ended on Monday afternoon when the men's soccer team lost 2-3 in a double overtime heartbreaker to Martin Luther in the UMAC playoffs.
Martin Luther scored in the 17th minute on a long through ball from Josh Koelpin to Joseph Graumann resulting in an early 1-0 lead for MLC.
The Storm tied it up in the 30th minute off a corner kick by junior
Ger Jones finished off by the junior
Storm Heyer (Zimmerman, Minn./Zimmerman). However, that game did not remain tied for long, as Martin Luther had a corner kick by Jacob Shepherd finished off by Erich Osterman. Crown was down 1-2 at halftime.
Needing a second half score, Crown found one on a solo play by senior
Sam Eckman (Edinboro, Penn./Dalat International) in the 58th minute to tie the game up at two. That score remained throughout the end of regulation.
The game then went into overtime, where neither team was able to score in the extra ten minutes; Crown shot once on a junior
Josiah Steinkamp try, and Martin Luther shot three times during this period.
The second overtime did not last long, as the first shot of the period came through on a header by MLC's Joseph Graumann, his second goal of the game.
Martin Luther advances in the UMAC playoffs to face the College of St. Scholastica.
